The 25 Anniversary Celebrationsof Ballymoney Model Flying Club

On the 21st of June we celebrated our 25th year as a Model Flying Club with a Fly-In it was all low key stuff just flying off the peg or just flying if on 2.4 (soon the young uns will be saying whats a pegboard) and the BBQ on all day. The weather was not the kindest to us, drizzling most of the morning and a stiff wind, but it did get a little better in the afternoon and Flying got underway, Bill Ervine of Bills Hobbies donated lots of prizes for the draw and the money raised from this paid for all the BBQ stuff, so a big Thanks to Bill, we gave Archie the day off so he could enjoy some flying ( although we used his contacts for supplies ) and Clifford Wallace and Alan Gibson took over and did a great job although Archie said theres no jobs for them in his kitchen (they would eat the profits).
Clubs were well represented and a good crowd was in attendance, demo flights were flown by Matthew Poots who needs no introduction and Shane McGirr of Letterkenny MFC, Shane for those of you who don't know is the new 3DX Ireland Helicopter Champion a great achievement for this likeable young lad of just about 15 years and a name you will also see more of in the future I suspect. I must admit one of the flights I enjoyed best was Matthew Poots flying his Raptor 50 Helicopter, he flew great big fast circuits and loops and rolls most of the time although he did do the odd 3D flip, but it was like watching an IMAC schedule with a Helicopter. Also enjoyable to watch was young Lee from Scrabbo Helicopter Club flying his Trex 600 he is only 10 and again a name to watch for in the future having already competed in the 3DX this year at the age of 9.
A good many members and family of Ballymoney Model Flying Club had stayed overnight on Saturday prior to the event and the weather on Saturday was better we flew in the afternoon and into the night when electric stuff with lights came out. A large number of Zaggis were in the air in the afternoon so I decided to put an indoor Bug up and prop hanged over the strip, only Matthew Steele managed to hit it and no damage was done, I have a new model built for the incoming indoor season and was looking some help in getting the gear out but to no avail, afterall theres a lot of sky up there.
Well the party went on well into the night in fact some of us never slept, and for those in the tents, family planning advice was offered on the hour every hour in a rough welsh voice (never found out who it was), the chinese and chipshop in Dervock had there sales increased, you know the eating establishments of Dervock refer to BMFC as Dervock International. A little alchol was consumed, I don't partake myself cough cough!!! and the next day a few were sufferring from WINE flu!!!! it was all very good fun.
By the size of the tent Richard and Samantha was sleeping in, it could be quite possible that a we could see a new arrival in 9 months, how the two of them managed in there I don't know.
It was a great weekend great "Craic"
On behalf of the Club I would like to Thank all who attended, and all those who made it possible, a lot of hard work goes into these events, so a big THANKS to you all, and lets have another great 25 years.
